Six kids face off in the battle of their lives. The competition is intense. The words are outrageous. Let the spelling (and singing) begin! Three adults adjudicate the proceedings: a nostalgic former spelling bee winner, a mildly insane Vice Principal and The Official Comfort Counselor completing his community service to the State of New York. Both tender and sardonic, this hilarious Tony Award-winning musical of overachievers' angst brings you inside the spelling championship to end them all. Directed by Barbara Downer.Performances are 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. on Sundays). Free post-show reception opening night, Sept. 11.

Bons Temps means Good Times! You may have heard the famous “Laissez les bons temps rouler,” or “Let the good times roll,” and at this festival, they certainly do! The Bons Temps Festival, held September 17–19, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss has been providing good times for many years. Sure, they have your ordinary carnival rides and games, but the Bons Temps festival has something no one else does…the Bons Temps Idol! Be sure to bring your appetite for the great food, but also bring those vocal pipes for your chance to impress the judges and win! If singing isn’t for you, there will be live music for everyone to enjoy. With activities and treats to tempt even the strictest sweet tooth, you’ll want to get there early and leave late. The festival will open on Friday from 5–10 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Sunday’s hours will be 10 a.m.–3 p.m. For more information on this festival, visit www.st-theresa-parish.org, or for general information on the area, visit www.visitlakecharles.org.
